Success, Failure and Life

Through the last six months, we have shed light on various aspects of life here on the tlp weblog. We have handled the multiple facets of human existence to give the spiritual seeker a complete overview of what the human existence is all about. Through the many discussions that we had here on the tlp weblog, we have always ensured that success remains a vital part of what we try to achieve in life. However in reality, true spirituality has got very little to do with success; it has indeed got little to do with achievements. Why is it so? Why does true spirituality not advocate the relentless pursuit of success through materialistic opportunities? And if that be the case, why we here at Team Silentium exhort the seeker to strive for success and perfection, every single moment of his life?

The answers to the aforementioned questions lie in one word. Relativity; a phenomenon discovered by Albert Einstein. If truth be told, understanding relativity answers most of the questions that arise in life. But to answer the ones that I have posed in the onset, I would say this.

The reason why true spirituality never advocates either success or failure is that there is no clearly demarcating line between the two. There will be countless occasions in an individual’s life, when his success makes him want to cry; when his achievements leave him unsatisfied and completely unhappy. The reason for this, being that success is always measured in terms of acquiring, and failure in terms of sacrifice. Hence whenever you get success, you also get failure. It’s simple physics. When you acquire something that you desire, in turn you have to sacrifice something; you have to let go of something; something that is very close to your heart and something that you really cherish and treasure.

That is the true gist of life; success always comes with failure and every form of failure comes with a shade of success. Hence to go beyond this duality and to completely rise above this recursive way of life is what true spirituality is all about.

The reason as to why true spirituality never advocates the relentless pursuit of success through materialistic opportunities is indeed that it is nothing but an endless cycle of misery. The moment an individual accomplishes his goals, the moment an individual acquires his desires; there are some desires that he must sacrifice for his own sake. Thus the fulfillment of one desire leaves in its wake the yearning for another. The joy of success comes with the grief of failure; both co-existing within the individual; creating a bi-polar existence that threatens to destroy his very identity. Why would one yearn for such an existence? Why would true spirituality ever advocate such a lifestyle?

And yet, we here at Team Silentium, through the epistles of enlightenment disseminated on this weblog, exhort the seeker to yearn for success; to strive for greatness. The reason being simple; relativity. As part of the illusion of this world; as part of the redundant and recursive way of existence, we are bound by its laws. We are bound by its illusion, for we too are the same. For us the illusion is just as real, for we, in our very existence are a part of that illusion. Hence to first rise above the illusion, we need to conquer it. In order to begin the journey that lies beyond, we first need to win through the battle of life; and hence do I justify this earthly strife.

In the end there is little that can be achieved through intellectual brainstorming. Only through the infinite grace of the master would we be able to achieve the correct balance in our lives. Only through His blessings, would we find lasting satisfaction amidst the chaos of life. Only through him, can our souls find fulfillment.

Peace be unto you. Amen.
